Frequently Asked Questions

  • What areas do you service?
    • Macomb County: Roseville, Fraser, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, Warren, Harrison Township, Clinton Township, Grosse Pointe Woods, Eastpointe, Mount Clemens, and surrounding areas.
    • Oakland County: Royal Oak, Ferndale, Beverly Hills, Birmingham, Berkley, Oak Park, Hazel Park, Troy and surrounding areas.

If you live outside those areas, send us an email at TableScrapsCompost@gmail.com and let us know that you're interested.  If we get enough                             interest in your area, we'll look to expand.
  • Is this only available in the Spring/Summer?
    • No, this is an all year round service.  We know that you may not need compost in the winter, so we will hold it and give it back to you in the spring just in time to get your gardens going again.
  • What if we just want to reduce our food waste but we don't need the finished compost?
    • Excellent!  We are partnered with Farm City Detroit, a non-profit community garden in downtown Detroit that grows free, organic food for neighbors in need.  You have the option to donate your Table Scraps to Farm City Detroit to help ensure that they can continue doing what they do.  Your food waste will directly help feed others, how great is that!
  • How much compost can I expect?
    • As compost becomes available, we will fill your 5 gallon bucket on your next pick up day.  You can expect a full bucket 2-4 times a year.  If you're looking for a ton of compost, this won't be the quickest or most economical way to do it, but if you just want a little compost to top off your garden bed or potted plants while ensuring that your Table Scraps don't end up in a landfill, that's what we're here for.
  • How long does it take to get compost back?
    • Many factors contribute to the timing such as time of year, temperature, amount and type of waste provided.  Because we are a relatively new service, we can't yet guarantee the frequency/quantity of compost you will receive.  Once we have a better understanding of the volume of Table Scraps we receive, we should be able to give a better estimate.
  • How much does it cost?
    • Our compost service is $15 a month for every other week pick-ups.  You can purchase 3 months at a time for $40 ($5 Savings) or a full year for $150 ($30 Savings)  If you fill up your bucket too quickly, we can deliver you a second bucket for $5 extra a month.
  • Do I need to be home for my pick up?
    • Nope, as long as your bucket is out there on the morning of your pick up day, you're all set.
  • What items can go in the compost bucket?
    • Here's a list of compostable items:  (We will supply you with a list as well.)
      • Fruits - Peels, Pits, Rinds, Everything (Please remove stickers from all produce)
